KEEPING THE BABY IN MIND
ENHANCING OBSERVATIONAL SKILLS IN PRACTICE
Target Audience:
Social Workers, Social Work Assistants, Early Years, Child and Family Centre and Early Intervention staff.
Aims and Outcomes:
- To enhance skills in observation of young infants including parent/infant interactions and consider the emotional life of the infant.
- Build on knowledge of relevant theories e.g. infant development, attunement, attachment, brain development.
- Increase confidence in use of observations within assessment and report writing and how to evidence the emotional experiences of infants.
Content:
This 4 day course runs over 8 weeks and It’s a practice based course. Participants look at an existing case in detail, including observations and reflective logs.
Participants have to commit to reading articles provided in preparation for each session and to keep a reflective log of their own work with a family.
Further Information:
Participants need to identify the infant they are going to consider before attending the course.
