UNDERSTANDING NEGLECT
Target Audience
Staff working directly with children and families and particularly useful for social workers, teachers, police, health staff and family support services based in Edinburgh in need of an in-depth knowledge of neglect.
Content
This course will focus on the complexities of working with the issues of neglect and in particular:
- Consideration of the challenges of working with neglect and how these may be overcome.
- Opportunity to consider emotional neglect and helping parents to recognise and understand this.
- A more in-depth look at how child development is a dynamic process shaped by historical and current interactions between child, family and environment.
- Opportunity to consider how to evidence and present concerns within different child protection systems.
- Introduction to using ‘risk of neglect toolkit’.
- Introduce practical resource to use in working and engaging with parents who are neglectful.
- Opportunity to explore activities such as the Last 24 hours.
- Time to reflect on current practice and consider some new ideas.
NOTE: This course is 2 full days and both dates should be attended.
