Advanced skills in assessing and managing risk in Child Protection
Intensive Workforce
This is aimed at experienced staff part of the Intensive workforce, particularly practitioners working closely with children and families who regularly participate in the assessment of risk and contribute to the child planning process. This is for workers who have previously completed the two-day risk assessment course, OR experienced child protection workers.
Risk of Neglect Toolkit Workshop
This workshop aims to offer an introduction to Edinburgh’s Risk of Neglect Toolkit and how it can support practitioners in assessing and working with families, children, and young people where neglect is a concern.
Understanding Neglect
This is a 2 days Child Protection learning opportunity for practitioners from the Specific or Intensive level workforce who have regular, direct involvement with children, young people and their families.
Vulnerability of Babies
This 3-hour workshop is for practitioners from the Specific or Intensive level workforce who are working with children and their families, particularly those with infants or young children.
Substance Use in Pregnancy
This 90-minutes learning opportunity is designed for practitioners from the Specific or Intensive level workforce who work with adults, children and their families affected by substance use.
Exploitation of Children and Young People
This 3-hour learning opportunity is for practitioners from the Specific or Intensive level workforce who are working with children, young people and their families.
Giving Evidence in Court
This 2-hour learning opportunity takes place at Edinburgh Sheriff Court and is intended for Specific level workforce practitioners who are likely to be cited to attend court in relation to child welfare or protection issues in their work with children, young people and their families.
Domestic Abuse
Level 1 and Level 2
Re-thinking domestic abuse (Level 1) and Working Together to Address Domestic Abuse (Level 2) events are for practitioners from the Specific or Intensive level workforce who have regular, direct involvement with children, young people and their families.
Fabricated and Induced Illness
Awareness raising and Implications for practice
A webinar for those working closely with children and families in community settings and health staff in acute paediatric areas, and children and families social work areas – particularly those who provide supervision or work in an advisory capacity such as reviewing officers.

To raise awareness of the different forms that domestic abuse can take and to support professionals to develop a trauma informed response to disclosures of domestic abuse.
